How My Tech Guide handles information when you read our guides, compare eSIM plans, contact us or subscribe to our newsletter.
Last updated:
1. About this policy
MyTechGuide, also presented as My Tech Guide, is the publishing brand used for travel eSIM comparisons, destination guides and advice about staying connected abroad at mytechguide.io. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of this website.
Website contact: MyTechGuideContact address: Złota 59, 00-120 Warszawa, Poland
Email: support@mytechguide.io
This policy covers information handled through our website, contact channels and newsletter. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to support@mytechguide.io.
When you buy an eSIM through a provider linked from our guides, that provider handles the purchase, account and mobile service under its own privacy policy. A purchase made on an external provider’s website does not make My Tech Guide the provider of your eSIM.
2. Information we collect
Messages you send us. If you use our contact form or email us, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, email address, subject and message. This may include an article URL, a correction or details of a proposed collaboration.
Newsletter subscriptions. If you subscribe, your email address and subscription information are processed to manage the subscription. Related records can include the time and source of signup, confirmation status, delivery status and unsubscribe requests.
Technical and usage information. Website delivery, security and measurement services may process your IP address, browser and device information, operating system, requested pages, referring website, timestamps, error information and interactions with the website. An approximate location may be inferred from an IP address; this is different from precise GPS location.
Please send only information needed for your enquiry. Do not include passwords, full payment-card details, passport copies or eSIM activation QR codes. Providing contact or subscription details is voluntary, although we need a usable email address to reply or deliver the newsletter.
3. Why we use information
- To deliver website pages and keep the website reliable and secure.
- To answer questions, investigate reported issues and review corrections to our content.
- To send the newsletter and manage subscription preferences.
- To understand readership and improve our guides, comparisons and navigation.
- To measure referrals and administer affiliate relationships.
- To meet applicable legal obligations, handle complaints and establish or defend legal claims.
Sending an enquiry does not itself subscribe you to the newsletter. Newsletter signup is a separate action.
4. Legal grounds for processing
Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, processing requires a lawful basis. The basis depends on the activity:
- Consent: for newsletter marketing and for optional cookies or tracking where applicable law requires consent. Consent can be withdrawn without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
- Legitimate interests: for responding to ordinary enquiries, operating and securing the website, preventing abuse, managing business correspondence and reconciling lawfully obtained affiliate reports, where those interests are not overridden by your rights. This basis does not remove a consent requirement for cookies or similar tracking.
- Legal obligations: where we must retain or disclose information to comply with a legal requirement.
6. Website measurement and Google services
The website includes Google tagging for website measurement. Depending on the connected service and its settings, information sent to Google can include the page address, IP address, browser and device details, referral information and interactions such as link clicks or form events.
Measurement helps show which topics visitors read, how they reach our guides and where the website can be improved.
Google explains its processing and available controls in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can contact us for information about the measurement configuration relevant to your visit.
7. Newsletter and email communications
Our website includes a newsletter signup form built with Mailchimp for WordPress. When a subscription is processed through Mailchimp, subscription details are used to manage the mailing list and send travel connectivity tips, new guides, provider comparisons and relevant offers.
Mailchimp processes information needed for list management and delivery. If campaign tracking is enabled, emails can contain tracked links or a small image that records an apparent opening. These reports help assess which newsletter topics and links attract interest.
You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter or by emailing support@mytechguide.io. Blocking remote images in your email application can limit image-based open tracking, but does not necessarily prevent click tracking.
Unsubscribing stops marketing emails. Limited records may still be needed to record your choice, demonstrate consent or prevent accidental resubscription. More information is available in Mailchimp’s privacy information.
8. Affiliate links and referral tracking
Some links on My Tech Guide are affiliate links. If you follow one and complete a qualifying purchase, we may receive a commission without an additional charge being added by us.
An affiliate link may pass through a redirect or affiliate network before reaching the provider. The organisations involved may process a referral identifier, click time, referring page, IP address or browser information, and may use cookies or similar technologies to connect a later purchase with the referral.
Affiliate reporting can include referral or transaction references, conversion values and commission status, depending on the programme. The provider handles the information you submit during checkout, account creation or eSIM activation under its own policy.
See our Affiliate Disclosure for more about the commercial relationship. Privacy information from the relevant provider or network explains its tracking practices.
9. Service providers and other recipients
Running the website involves services for hosting, website delivery, email, subscriptions, measurement and security. Relevant recipients include Mailchimp for newsletter functions, Google for connected measurement services, and Cloudflare Turnstile for automated-abuse protection.
Turnstile helps distinguish ordinary visitors from automated requests. In doing so, Cloudflare can process technical information about the browser, device and request. Its processing is described in Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
Information may also be disclosed to professional advisers or competent authorities where needed to meet a legal obligation, handle a dispute or protect legitimate legal interests. A service provider’s role can differ from that of an independent provider you visit through a link.
10. How long information is kept
Retention depends on the purpose and type of record. The criteria are:
- Enquiries and correspondence: the time needed to answer the enquiry, deal with related follow-up and retain relevant evidence where a complaint or legal claim requires it.
- Newsletter records: the duration of the subscription, followed by any limited retention needed for unsubscribe records, consent evidence and applicable legal obligations.
- Technical and security records: the operational period needed to diagnose failures, investigate abuse and protect the website, taking account of the service’s log and backup cycles.
- Measurement and affiliate records: the applicable service settings and the period needed for measurement, referral reconciliation, disputes or legally required recordkeeping.
Retention settings differ between services. Contact us if you need the period or criteria applicable to a particular record. A deletion request may not immediately remove information from isolated backups that remain subject to their normal replacement cycle.
11. International processing
Third-party services can process information in countries other than the one where you live, including outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Those countries may have different data protection laws.
Transfers subject to EU or UK data protection law require a valid transfer arrangement, such as an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards. The arrangement depends on the recipient and service; their privacy notices and contractual terms provide further information. You can ask us which arrangements apply to information handled through this website and how to obtain relevant details.
12. Your privacy rights
Depending on the law that applies and the circumstances, you may have rights to access your personal information, correct inaccurate details, request deletion, restrict processing, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or receive certain information in a portable format.
You can withdraw consent where processing relies on it, and object to direct marketing at any time. Some rights have conditions or exceptions.
Send requests to support@mytechguide.io. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity. For requests covered by the GDPR, we will respond without undue delay and normally within one month. If an extension is permitted, we will explain the reason within that initial period.
You may also complain to a competent data protection authority, including, where applicable, one in the country where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred.
13. Security and external websites
Technical security measures, access controls and abuse-prevention services help protect information. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, so please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
External websites and applications have their own privacy practices. Review those policies before providing personal information, making a purchase or activating a service. Direct account, payment or connectivity enquiries to the eSIM provider responsible for that service.
14. Children’s privacy
My Tech Guide’s guides and newsletter are intended for a general travel audience, rather than directed at children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the website or newsletter without any authorisation required by law, contact us so the information can be reviewed and appropriate action taken.
15. Changes to this policy
This policy may be revised when website features, service providers or legal requirements change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. Where a change requires a separate notice or fresh consent, updating this page alone does not replace that requirement.
Questions about your information?
For privacy questions, newsletter requests or requests to exercise your rights, email support@mytechguide.io. Include enough context to help locate the relevant information, such as the email address used to subscribe or the date of your enquiry.
