Best eSIM for 🇺🇸 USA Travel in 2026

The right USA eSIM depends on more than the headline data allowance. The local carrier, trip length, hotspot rules and what happens after a high-speed limit can matter just as much as the price, especially on a road trip or when working from a laptop.

Best eSIM for USA Travel: Quick Verdict

Sim Local is the best USA eSIM for our fixed-data travel profile, scoring 92.0/100. Its combination of competitive 5GB, 10GB and 20GB pricing, AT&T and Verizon on the compared fixed plan, hotspot support without a separate published tethering allowance and top-up support produced the strongest overall result.

Ubigi is the best choice when the lowest 10GB price matters most, while Airalo is the better close alternative when documented switching between T-Mobile and Verizon is worth paying more for. For a 15-day unlimited plan, Sim Local offers 5GB of high-speed data per day for US$38.25; Ubigi costs US$39 and provides a more flexible 30GB total high-speed allowance before speeds are capped at 2Mbps.

Choose Nomad eSIM for carrier choice and fixed or unlimited plan options. The compared 10GB/30-day fixed plan supports AT&T and Verizon with switching between supported networks; the 15-day unlimited option uses T-Mobile. Both support hotspot, and eligible fixed plans offer add-ons. The free trial is an extra benefit for eligible new users. Nomad eSIM scores 82.9/100 and ranks fifth in the fixed-data comparison, where its standard prices are higher than the value leaders.

How We Ranked the Providers

We modelled a typical data-only USA trip lasting 7–21 days, with 5GB, 10GB and 20GB fixed-data needs, occasional hotspot use and no requirement for a native US number. Value contributes 30 points and uses the cheapest eligible public plan in three baskets weighted 25%, 50% and 25%; private reader codes were excluded. Documented network access contributes 25 points, practical use and terms 25, and plan flexibility 20.

Prices, plan pages and official help documents were checked on 15 September 2026; Nomad eSIM’s supported networks and switching were rechecked on 21 September 2026. We did not perform independent speed or coverage tests. A provider received network or reuse credit only when the applicable official material documented it. Unlimited plans were compared separately for the same 15-day trip because their high-speed allowances and fair-use rules are not equivalent.

Nomad eSIM earns full network-access credit for its documented AT&T and Verizon access, supported-network switching and 5G/LTE support. These points describe the available features, not measured speed or nationwide coverage quality.

Sim Local remains first when price or network access receives more weight. Nomad eSIM moves to second when network access receives 40 points, while Jetpac moves ahead of Airalo when price receives 45 points. Replacing the checked sale prices with the recorded regular-price alternatives puts Nomad eSIM fourth at 82.6 and Jetpac fifth at 80.1; their order therefore depends partly on the available offers.

USA eSIM Plans and Prices

Fixed and unlimited plans answer different needs, so they are shown in separate tables. The fixed-data table uses minimum baskets rather than forcing every provider into a 10GB-only comparison. A larger plan is included when it is the cheapest package that satisfies the required data and validity.

Fixed-data takeaway: Sim Local is the most balanced choice across all three baskets. Ubigi is cheaper for an exact 10GB/30-day purchase, but it uses T-Mobile and excludes Alaska. For a choice of two carriers, compare Airalo’s T-Mobile and Verizon access with Nomad eSIM’s AT&T and Verizon access on the selected fixed plan. Both document switching between supported networks; choose the carrier pair that suits your route.

Unlimited Price and High-Speed Data Comparison

Every row below uses a 15-day USA plan. “Unlimited” does not mean unlimited maximum-speed data: the daily or total high-speed allowance, reduced speed and hotspot rule determine how the plan behaves in practice.

USA unlimited eSIM plans for a 15-day trip
Provider and plan Price High-speed data After the limit Listed network Hotspot
Sim Local Unlimited US$38.25 5GB per day 1Mbps until daily reset T-Mobile Supported
Ubigi Unlimited US$39 30GB total 2Mbps for the rest of the plan T-Mobile Supported
Nomad eSIM Unlimited US$44 2GB per day Up to 1Mbps until daily reset T-Mobile Supported
Jetpac Unlimited US$44.99 sale 3GB per day 1Mbps until daily reset T-Mobile Supported
Airalo Unlimited US$46 5GB per day 1Mbps until daily reset T-Mobile and Verizon Supported
Saily Unlimited US$48.99 5GB per day Up to 1Mbps until daily reset Not publicly identified Supported
aloSIM Unlimited US$49 2GB per day Reduced speed; rate not published Conflicting references on the USA page Supported
Holafly USA US$50.50 No numeric high-speed threshold published May be reduced under carrier fair use AT&T and T-Mobile 1GB per day
Prices and plan-level fair-use terms checked 15 September 2026. Jetpac displayed US$78 as the regular price for its US$44.99 sale plan. MYTECHGUIDE15 does not apply to Nomad eSIM unlimited plans.

Unlimited-data takeaway: Sim Local provides the lowest 15-day price and a generous 5GB daily high-speed allowance. Ubigi costs only US$0.75 more and may be better when usage varies sharply from day to day because its 30GB allowance is shared across the full 15 days. Compare more high-usage options in our guide to the best unlimited travel eSIM plans.

Provider Reviews

1. Sim Local: Best Overall for Fixed Data

Sim Local scores 92.0/100 for our USA fixed-data profile. It ranks first because it stays competitive across all three price baskets while documenting AT&T and Verizon, 5G access, hotspot support and top-ups on the compared fixed plan.

The 10GB/30-day package costs US$17.50 and the 20GB/30-day package costs US$28.50. Both are data-only plans. They start when the eSIM first connects to a supported US network, or automatically 60 days after purchase if the connection has not occurred, so buying too early can start the clock before a later trip.

Sim Local is also the strongest 15-day unlimited option in this comparison. Its US$38.25 plan provides 5GB of high-speed data per day, then 1Mbps until the next daily reset. Hotspot tethering is supported. This unlimited package uses T-Mobile rather than the AT&T and Verizon combination shown for the compared fixed plan, so check the network for the exact package rather than assuming one carrier setup applies across the range.

  • Strengths: competitive fixed prices, two listed networks on the compared fixed plan, hotspot support without a separate published tethering allowance, top-ups and a clear 5GB/day unlimited policy.
  • Limitations: data-only service, different carriers between fixed and unlimited packages, and automatic activation after 60 days if an unused plan has not connected.

2. Ubigi: Best Low-Cost 10GB Plan

Ubigi scores 87.8/100, placing it second. Its US$14 10GB/30-day plan is the cheapest directly comparable 10GB package we found, and its US$12 10GB/7-day option is particularly strong for a short trip.

The compared USA plans use T-Mobile and support up to 5G where available. Data sharing is allowed, Smartstart begins the validity period when the eSIM connects in the destination, and the same Ubigi eSIM can be reused and recharged for later supported trips. The main geographic caveat is explicit: Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are included, but Alaska is not.

Ubigi’s 15-day unlimited plan costs US$39 and includes 30GB of high-speed data in one trip-wide pool, followed by service at up to 2Mbps. That structure is more flexible than a daily reset for someone who might use 6GB on one workday and very little on the next.

  • Strengths: lowest 10GB/30-day price, hotspot support, reusable eSIM, destination-based activation and a flexible 30GB unlimited allowance.
  • Limitations: T-Mobile is the only listed US carrier and Alaska is excluded.

Read our Ubigi eSIM review for a closer look at installation, top-ups and account management.

3. Airalo: Best for Documented Carrier Switching

Airalo scores 86.3/100, only 1.5 points behind Ubigi. It costs more in the fixed-data baskets, but the USA plan details identify T-Mobile and Verizon and explain that the eSIM may switch based on availability and speed; users can also adjust the network selection in device settings.

A 10GB/15-day plan costs US$22, while 20GB/30 days costs US$36.50. Hotspot use is supported, the package activates when it first connects within coverage, and an unstarted plan can be held for up to 365 days. The same eSIM can continue with a top-up when the product supports top-ups, avoiding an unnecessary reinstall.

For unlimited data, the 15-day plan costs US$46 and provides 5GB at high speed each day, then 1Mbps until the daily reset. It is more expensive than Sim Local’s plan with the same headline daily allowance, but the documented two-carrier setup can justify the difference for some routes.

  • Strengths: documented T-Mobile and Verizon access, switching guidance, hotspot, top-ups, reusable eSIM and a long activation window.
  • Limitations: higher fixed-data prices than Sim Local and Ubigi.

Read our Airalo eSIM review for setup, app and support details.

4. Jetpac: Best for Sale Value and Travel Perks

Jetpac scores 85.1/100 using the public prices available when checked. Its 10GB/30-day package was US$19 instead of the displayed US$30 regular price, while a 30GB/30-day package cost US$29.99 instead of US$50. That makes Jetpac competitive, but the price advantage is less secure than a standard tariff.

The USA plans checked use T-Mobile with 4G and 5G availability. Hotspot use is permitted without a separate tethering allowance, and Jetpac documents top-ups plus reuse of one eSIM for later supported trips. Its 15-day unlimited plan costs US$44.99 on sale and provides 3GB at high speed each day before continuing at 1Mbps.

Jetpac also includes practical travel extras on eligible plans. These can include continued access to selected essential apps after the main fixed allowance is exhausted and SmartDelay lounge access when a registered flight and participating airport meet the stated delay conditions. Treat these as useful extras, not substitutes for checking route coverage.

  • Strengths: strong sale prices, hotspot, reusable eSIM, top-ups and travel benefits.
  • Limitations: sale prices can end; using the displayed regular prices lowers its score to 80.1.

Read our Jetpac eSIM review for the app, essential-app access and SmartDelay conditions.

5. Nomad eSIM: Best for Carrier Choice and Flexible Plan Options

Nomad eSIM is a practical choice if you want AT&T and Verizon access on a fixed plan or a T-Mobile unlimited option, with hotspot supported on both compared packages. Its 10GB fixed plan lasts 30 days, giving you room if a shorter trip runs longer, and supports switching between its two listed networks. Nomad eSIM scores 82.9/100 for the fixed-data profile; its standard fixed prices remain higher than the value leaders.

Compared Nomad eSIM USA fixed and unlimited plans
Compared plan Price High-speed data Listed network Hotspot Add-on
Fixed 10GB / 30 days US$25 10GB total AT&T and Verizon Supported Eligible
Unlimited / 15 days US$44 2GB per day T-Mobile Supported Not available

The two compared products use different networks. T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon appear across the wider USA range, but that does not mean every package includes all three. The fixed 10GB plan supports AT&T and Verizon, including switching between those supported networks, while the 15-day unlimited plan lists T-Mobile. Choose the plan type and carrier combination before purchase, and check coverage along your route.

The fixed plan gives you a 10GB allowance to use across 30 days, with eligible add-ons if you need more. The compared unlimited plan provides 2GB at high speed each day, then up to 1 Mbps until the next daily reset; it does not support add-ons. This gives you a choice between a trip-wide data allowance and a daily high-speed allowance, depending on how you expect to use your phone and hotspot.

Free Trial and Add-ons

The Nomad eSIM Free Trial provides eligible new users with 1GB of data valid for three days across 76 destinations, with no payment card required and hotspot use supported. It can be installed within 15 days of redemption and activates when it connects to an eligible network. If it remains unused, the trial activates automatically 15 days after redemption.

Redeeming the trial removes eligibility for other first-time-user promotions. Choose either the free trial or an eligible first-purchase discount rather than expecting to combine them.

Eligible fixed plans can be extended with an add-on through the Manage section of the app or online account. The add-on uses the installed eSIM and starts after the original allowance is exhausted or expires, but it must be purchased while the original plan is still active. Because the published instructions do not establish reuse after that active-plan window, our flexibility score awards continuation credit but not future-trip reuse credit.

  • Strengths: AT&T and Verizon access with supported-network switching on the compared fixed plan, a T-Mobile unlimited alternative, 30-day fixed-plan validity, hotspot support, eligible fixed-plan add-ons and a no-card trial for eligible new users.
  • Limitations: higher standard fixed-data prices, 2GB/day on the compared unlimited plan, no add-on for that unlimited package and no documented future-trip reuse after the fixed plan’s active window.

6. aloSIM: Best for a Companion VoIP Number

aloSIM scores 71.0/100, narrowly ahead of Saily. Its fixed prices are competitive enough, hotspot use is supported and the same eSIM can be topped up and retained for future supported trips.

The 10GB/15-day package costs US$22.50, while the 15-day unlimited plan costs US$49 and provides 2GB of high-speed data per day before speeds are reduced. The provider does not publish the exact reduced rate on the USA product page.

Eligible plans can include a separate phone-number offer through Hushed, aloSIM’s sister app. This is an internet-based VoIP number managed outside the data eSIM, not a native cellular number attached to the aloSIM line. It may be useful for calls and texts, but it should not be assumed to work with every bank or service that requires SMS verification.

The biggest concern is network transparency. The current USA page identifies T-Mobile in its plan panel and FAQ but still contains a Verizon setup reference elsewhere. We treated this as a conflict and did not award exact-carrier or alternative-network credit. Confirm the network displayed for the selected package at checkout.

  • Strengths: fixed and unlimited plans, hotspot, top-ups, reusable eSIM and a companion Hushed number offer.
  • Limitations: conflicting carrier information, an unpublished reduced speed and a phone number that requires a separate app.

7. Saily: Best for Built-In Security Tools

Saily scores 70.1/100, only 0.9 points behind aloSIM. Its strongest differentiator is the set of app-based privacy and security features included with its data plans, including ad and tracker blocking, malicious-site protection and virtual-location options.

The USA range includes 5GB/30 days for US$13.99, 10GB/30 days for US$22.99 and 20GB/30 days for US$36.99. Its 15-day unlimited plan costs US$48.99 and includes 5GB of high-speed data per day, then up to 1Mbps until the daily reset. Hotspot sharing is supported without a separate published allowance.

Saily allows early installation, with an unused plan activating automatically after 180 days, and documents top-ups plus continued use of one eSIM across supported destinations. Its score is held back by the public USA page not naming the local network partner, making route-level coverage planning harder.

  • Strengths: security tools, 5GB/day unlimited allowance, hotspot, top-ups, reusable eSIM and a long activation window.
  • Limitations: no public carrier name and fixed-data pricing above Sim Local and Ubigi.

Read our Saily eSIM review for more on its app, setup and security features.

Holafly: Unlimited-Only Alternative for Flexible Trip Length

Holafly is not scored in the fixed-data ranking because it does not offer a comparable fixed package. It remains relevant for travelers who want unlimited data and the ability to buy the exact number of days rather than choose a fixed validity period.

A 15-day USA plan costs US$50.50 and lists AT&T and T-Mobile with 4G and 5G where available. Holafly does not publish a numeric high-speed allowance for this plan; it says the carrier may reduce speeds under fair-use conditions after heavy consumption. That makes the experience less predictable than a plan stating 2GB or 5GB per day.

Hotspot sharing is limited to 1GB per day. This may be enough for maps, messaging and brief laptop use, but it is a poor match for regular video meetings or large uploads. The eSIM is also not transferable or reinstallable after installation, so do not delete it during troubleshooting unless support instructs you to.

  • Strengths: unlimited data, flexible trip length, two listed US networks and 24/7 support.
  • Limitations: no fixed-data option, higher 15-day price, no numeric high-speed threshold and a 1GB/day hotspot limit.

Read our Holafly eSIM review for its setup, fair-use policy and refund conditions.

USA eSIM Coverage and Carrier Choice

A travel eSIM uses a local carrier rather than creating its own network. Actual service therefore depends on the carrier included with the exact package, your phone’s supported bands, network congestion and the route. A provider showing several US carriers across its catalog does not automatically provide all of them on every plan.

For interstate driving, national parks and rural accommodation, compare the carrier pair offered by the exact plan. Airalo documents T-Mobile and Verizon access with switching guidance. Nomad eSIM’s 10GB/30-day USA plan lists AT&T and Verizon, and Nomad confirms that customers can switch between supported networks. Both therefore receive full alternative-network credit in this comparison. Sim Local’s compared fixed plan also lists AT&T and Verizon; its partial switching credit reflects the more limited guidance recorded in our 15 September review, rather than a finding that switching is impossible.

Switching is limited to the networks supported by the purchased package and available at your location. Nomad eSIM’s compared 15-day unlimited plan lists T-Mobile, so the two-network benefit of the fixed plan should not be assumed for that unlimited package.

Before a road trip, open the FCC National Broadband Map, select mobile coverage and compare AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon along the actual route. Check highways, park entrances and accommodation areas rather than only the nearest city.

  • City break: once the selected carrier covers your destinations, prioritize data allowance, price and activation timing.
  • Multi-state trip: choose a package that identifies its network before purchase and verify the full route.
  • Remote work: verify both carrier coverage and the hotspot allowance; an “unlimited” phone plan can still restrict tethering.
  • Alaska and territories: never assume a generic “USA” label includes every state or territory. Ubigi explicitly includes Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands but excludes Alaska; check every other exact plan individually.

How Much Data Do You Need in the USA?

Most leisure travelers receive better value from fixed data. Unlimited becomes more useful for frequent streaming, video calls, cloud backups or laptop tethering, but the high-speed limit still matters.

Suggested USA eSIM data allowances by travel use
Usage level Typical activities Suggested allowance Suitable plan type
Light Maps, messaging, email and occasional browsing 1–3GB per week Small fixed-data plan
Regular Daily navigation, social media, browsing and short calls 3–8GB per week 5GB or 10GB fixed plan
Heavy Frequent video, uploads, calls and cloud apps 10–20GB per week Large fixed or unlimited plan
Remote work Hotspot, video meetings and large file transfers 2–5GB or more per day Unlimited plan with a suitable high-speed and hotspot allowance

These are planning estimates, not guarantees. High-resolution video, automatic photo backup, app updates and sharing the connection with other people can increase consumption quickly. Download offline maps and media over Wi-Fi and disable background updates if you want a fixed allowance to last longer.

Do You Need a US Phone Number?

Most travel eSIMs in this comparison are data-only. WhatsApp, FaceTime, iMessage, Signal and other internet-based services can continue to work, but the travel eSIM generally does not provide a native US mobile number for ordinary carrier calls and SMS.

For a short trip, keep your primary SIM enabled for your existing number and select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Turn off data roaming on the primary line to reduce the risk of roaming charges. aloSIM’s Hushed offer adds a separate VoIP number, but it is not the same as a native number attached to the data eSIM and may not satisfy every verification service.

Choose a local US prepaid carrier plan instead when a native number, domestic calling or reliable SMS verification is essential. A travel eSIM is usually simpler when your priorities are maps, ride-hailing, messaging, browsing and immediate data after arrival.

How to Install and Activate a USA eSIM

  1. Check compatibility and lock status. Confirm that your exact phone model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM compatibility guide explains what to verify.
  2. Choose the exact plan. Check data, validity, carrier, hotspot rule, activation deadline and whether top-ups are available.
  3. Install over reliable Wi-Fi. Use the provider app, a QR code or manual installation details. Keep the confirmation email available on another device if scanning a QR code.
  4. Label the line. A name such as “USA eSIM” makes it easier to select the correct line after landing.
  5. Set mobile data correctly. Select the USA eSIM for cellular data, enable data roaming on that travel line when instructed and keep primary-line data roaming off.
  6. Respect the activation rule. Some plans begin on the first supported US connection, while others have a purchase or redemption deadline that can start the plan automatically.

Do not confuse installation with activation. Installing before departure is usually convenient, but buying months too early can be a problem when the plan has a 60-day or 180-day automatic-start window.

What to Do If Your USA eSIM Does Not Connect

  1. Confirm that the eSIM line is turned on and selected for mobile data.
  2. Enable data roaming on the travel eSIM if the provider’s instructions require it.
  3. Turn airplane mode on for about 30 seconds, turn it off and restart the phone.
  4. Check the APN against the installation instructions and correct it only when necessary.
  5. Try automatic network selection first. If the plan lists more than one carrier, follow the provider’s documented manual-selection steps.
  6. Disable cellular-data switching if the phone keeps returning to the primary SIM.
  7. Contact the provider while you still have Wi-Fi and include screenshots of the eSIM status, APN and any error message.

Do not delete the eSIM as an early troubleshooting step. Some profiles cannot be reinstalled. Wait for support to confirm that deletion is required and that a replacement can be issued.

Which USA eSIM Should You Choose?

  • Choose Sim Local for the strongest all-round fixed-data result or the lowest-priced 15-day unlimited plan with 5GB of high-speed data per day.
  • Choose Ubigi for the lowest 10GB/30-day price, or for a 30GB total unlimited allowance that can be used unevenly across 15 days.
  • Choose Airalo when documented T-Mobile and Verizon switching matters more than the lowest fixed price.
  • Choose Jetpac when its current sale prices and eligible travel perks add real value; recheck the price before paying.
  • Choose Nomad eSIM for AT&T/Verizon switching on the compared fixed plan, or a T-Mobile unlimited option with a daily high-speed allowance. Both support hotspot; the fixed plan also offers 30-day validity and eligible add-ons. The free trial is an extra option for eligible new users.
  • Choose aloSIM when its separate Hushed VoIP number is useful and you have confirmed the exact network at checkout.
  • Choose Saily when built-in security tools matter more than public carrier transparency.
  • Choose Holafly when you want unlimited data for an exact number of days and can accept a 1GB/day hotspot limit and non-numeric fair-use threshold.

Final Verdict: What Is the Best eSIM for USA Travel?

Sim Local is our best USA eSIM for a typical 7–21-day fixed-data trip, with a score of 92.0/100. It combines strong basket pricing, two documented carriers on the compared fixed plan, hotspot use, clear activation and top-up support. Ubigi is the better buy for an exact low-cost 10GB plan, while Airalo is the better route-planning choice when documented switching between T-Mobile and Verizon is worth the higher price.

For unlimited data, choose by usage pattern rather than branding. Sim Local’s US$38.25 plan provides 5GB per day before 1Mbps; Ubigi’s US$39 plan provides 30GB across the whole trip before 2Mbps.

Choose Nomad eSIM when its carrier options and plan formats fit your trip: AT&T and Verizon with supported-network switching on the compared 30-day fixed plan, or T-Mobile on the 15-day unlimited option. Both support hotspot, eligible fixed-plan add-ons give you more data during the trip, and the free trial adds a way for eligible new users to try the service. Its 82.9/100 fixed-data score reflects these strengths alongside its higher standard prices.

Sim Local is the best match for our fixed-data profile, scoring 92.0/100. Ubigi is better if your priority is the lowest 10GB/30-day price, and Airalo is better when documented access to T-Mobile and Verizon with switching guidance matters more than price.

What is the best unlimited eSIM for a 15-day USA trip?

Sim Local offers the lowest checked price at US$38.25 with 5GB of high-speed data per day, followed by 1Mbps. Ubigi costs US$39 and gives 30GB of high-speed data across the entire 15 days before 2Mbps, which can be better for uneven daily usage.

Can I use hotspot tethering with a USA eSIM?

Yes, every compared provider supports hotspot use on the plan reviewed, but the rules differ. Holafly limits sharing to 1GB per day, while the other compared plans do not publish a separate hotspot allowance beyond the plan’s overall data or fair-use policy.

Will one USA eSIM work everywhere in the country?

No. Coverage depends on the local carrier included with the exact package, the route, congestion and phone compatibility. Verify the selected carrier on the FCC coverage map, and check state or territory exclusions. Ubigi, for example, includes Hawaii but excludes Alaska on the compared USA plans.

Do USA travel eSIMs include a local phone number?

Most are data-only. aloSIM can include access to a separate Hushed VoIP number, but it is not a native number attached to the data eSIM. If ordinary US calls, SMS or reliable number verification are essential, a local prepaid carrier plan is usually more appropriate.

Can I install a USA eSIM before departure?

Usually, yes. Install it over stable Wi-Fi, but check the activation rule and deadline first. Some plans start when they first connect in the United States, while others can activate automatically after a fixed number of days even if you have not travelled.

Can I use a travel eSIM and my regular SIM together?

Yes, on a compatible dual-SIM phone. Use the travel eSIM for mobile data, keep the regular SIM available for your number and disable data roaming on the regular line. This reduces the risk of accidental roaming data charges.

Can the Nomad eSIM free trial and MYTECHGUIDE15 discount be combined?

No. Trial redemption removes eligibility for other first-time-user promotions, and the discount applies only to an eligible first purchase through the partner link. Choose the trial if you want to test setup and connectivity first, or the discount if you are ready to buy an eligible fixed-data plan.
