Saily now sells several different travel products: prepaid data, shared plans, Unlimited plans, Ultra subscriptions and an optional US phone number. This Saily eSIM review explains the prices and restrictions that matter when choosing between them.
We checked official plan listings and support documents on October 7, 2026. This is a research-based review; we have not measured Saily’s network speeds, timed its support responses or carried out an app usability test.

Saily Review: Quick Verdict
Saily is worth considering if you want to reuse one eSIM across trips, manage data in one app and share an eligible fixed-data balance with other travelers. Start with the ordinary destination plans: they offer a straightforward way to match your allowance to one holiday.
- For one destination: choose a fixed-data plan around your expected usage. Japan 10GB for 30 days is US$17.99; Thailand’s equivalent is US$10.99.
- For companions: eligible shared plans let members connect on their own phones. Invite everyone before activation.
- For heavy use: read the daily high-speed allowance on Unlimited plans. Reduced-speed access can be a poor fit for sustained laptop work.
- For frequent travel: Ultra adds recurring billing and travel perks. Its three tiers have different data and phone-number benefits.

Saily’s Strengths and Trade-offs
Saily is a travel eSIM service from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. Its full catalog covers more than 200 destinations, with local, regional and Global options. Individual plans cover a smaller, specified list of countries.
What makes it useful
- Reusable setup: add later trips to the existing eSIM instead of installing a new profile for each destination.
- Different ways to buy data: fixed allowances suit a known budget; longer regional and Global validity can cover several trips.
- Shared fixed-data plans: eligible companions can draw from a common balance without staying beside one hotspot phone.
- Included security controls: ad blocking, web protection and virtual locations are available in the app.
Where to be careful
- Prices vary by destination: a good Japan price does not establish good value in every country.
- Unlimited has a speed allowance: daily high-speed data and fair-use restrictions still apply.
- Calls involve another product: the optional number brings extra charges and identity verification.
- Ultra is a subscription: its value depends on your travel schedule and whether you can use the included benefits.

Saily Plans and Prices: What a Trip Actually Costs
These are published USD prices for specific packages, checked on October 7, 2026. Reader discounts and Saily credits are excluded. The first table compares the same 10GB allowance and 30-day validity; the second shows longer and wider-coverage options.
Fixed-data prices for a single destination
| Destination | Allowance and validity | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Thailand | 10GB · 30 days | US$10.99 |
| Japan | 10GB · 30 days | US$17.99 |
| United States | 10GB · 30 days | US$22.99 |
Ten gigabytes is a useful comparison size, but your trip may need less. In Japan, Saily also lists 1GB for 7 days at US$3.99, 5GB for 30 days at US$10.99 and 20GB for 30 days at US$24.99. Use our travel data budget guide before paying for an allowance you are unlikely to use.
Regional and Global fixed-data options
| Plan | Allowance and validity | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Europe · 35 countries | 10GB · 30 days | US$35.99 |
| Europe · 35 countries | 50GB · 90 days | US$95.99 |
| Global · 121 destinations | 10GB · 180 days | US$56.99 |
| Global · 121 destinations | 20GB · 365 days | US$66.99 |
Choose coverage around your route. A local plan can be enough for one country; a regional plan gives you one allowance across its included destinations. Global 20GB can be useful for occasional trips over a year, but you receive 20GB for that entire period. Every border crossing does not create a fresh allowance.

Saily Unlimited: Read the Daily High-Speed Limit
The selected 15-day Unlimited plans below currently include 5GB of high-speed data per day, followed by continued access at up to 1Mbps. They suit travelers who expect regular daily usage and want to avoid buying another fixed allowance mid-trip.
Selected 15-day Unlimited plans
| Destination | High-speed allowance | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Thailand | 5GB per day | US$38.99 |
| United States | 5GB per day | US$45.99 |
| Japan | 5GB per day | US$48.99 |
| Europe | 5GB per day | US$49.99 |
Saily’s fair-use terms allow either 3GB or 5GB of high-speed data per day, depending on the destination offer. The reset is tied to local midnight in your current time zone. If the phone is offline then, the reset takes effect on its next data traffic. Changing time zones does not create an extra allowance.
At the reduced speed, plan around lighter tasks such as messaging and maps. Large uploads, high-quality video and sustained laptop work can become frustrating. A daily allowance also cannot be treated as one large high-speed pool to spend whenever you like.
Our choice for a modest Japan data budget: the 20GB fixed plan is US$24.99 for 30 days, compared with US$48.99 for 15 days of Unlimited. Pay the additional US$24 only if the daily allowance and continued reduced-speed access match how you expect to use data.
Coverage and Networks: What You Can Expect
Country coverage, available network technology and actual performance answer different questions. A destination appearing in Saily’s catalog means a plan is sold there; it does not guarantee strong reception at every hotel, beach or rural stop.
Saily’s Japan product page names KDDI and SoftBank and lists 4G/LTE and 5G where available. Those details belong to the Japan offer. They should not be assumed for every regional or Global plan that includes Japan.
For a work trip, focus on the places where a connection matters: your accommodation, meeting location and route between them. Reception, congestion, the phone’s supported bands and roaming traffic routing can all affect results. A 5G label alone cannot settle a comparison between providers.
Our Japan eSIM comparison helps narrow the destination choice. For travel across several countries, compare the actual included-country list before choosing a regional or Global product.
Install Before Departure; Understand When the Plan Starts
For ordinary prepaid data plans, installation and activation are separate steps. Saily says the plan normally activates when you reach a covered destination with the eSIM enabled and roaming on. An unused regular plan automatically activates 180 days after purchase.
- Check the exact phone model and carrier lock. You need an eSIM-compatible, unlocked device. Our eSIM compatibility guide explains what to check.
- Buy a plan covering the whole route. For a regional plan, reaching the first included country can start its validity.
- Install while you have a reliable connection. Follow the Saily app’s device-specific instructions before departure.
- Select Saily for mobile data. Enable data roaming on the Saily line and switch off automatic mobile-data switching.
- Control the home line separately. Switch off its data roaming. If you leave it enabled for calls or texts, your home carrier’s charges still apply.
- Check the connection on arrival. Confirm the Saily line is enabled and the plan is active before leaving airport Wi-Fi.
Follow Saily’s activation instructions for troubleshooting. Once a regular plan activates, it cannot be paused. For Turkey, Saily specifically instructs travelers to purchase and activate before entry because local access restrictions can prevent setup and top-ups.
Ultra starts on purchase. Subscription data plans activate immediately under Saily’s terms, even if the eSIM has not yet been downloaded. Buy a subscription with that start date in mind.
The Saily App: Reuse, Top-ups and Spending Control
The documented workflow keeps installation, plan management, security settings and support in the Saily app. The useful convenience is continuity: keep the installed eSIM and add a plan for the next destination when needed.
One reusable eSIM does not give every purchase a common balance. A Japan plan remains a Japan plan, and a separate Europe purchase has its own allowance and expiry. Shared-plan access is a specific feature described below.
Saily offers a manual top-up and an optional automatic top-up. Its Auto Top-Up guide says you can configure automatic replenishment to run once or each time the data runs out. This is useful for avoiding interruptions, but it also authorizes another purchase.
Automatic top-ups are charged at full price when the original purchase used a discount code or credits. Do not budget every refill at the discounted first price. Leave automatic top-up off if a fixed spending limit matters more than uninterrupted service.
The main convenience is keeping later trips in the same setup. You still need to manage the plan’s remaining data, destination coverage and expiry; keeping the eSIM installed does not preserve expired allowances.
Hotspot and Family Sharing Work Differently
Saily supports hotspot. Its hotspot instructions cover iPhone and Android. On a fixed-data plan, the phone and connected devices use the purchased allowance. A laptop backup or tablet stream can consume that balance quickly.
Hotspot availability does not remove the Unlimited fair-use rules. Saily restricts group use of Unlimited plans and high-volume tethering or continuous heavy usage that affects service. Treat occasional personal tethering differently from replacing household broadband.
Shared plans give companions independent connections
With Saily’s shared-plan feature, the owner can invite up to four additional members, for five people in total. Each member needs the app, an account and their own compatible device setup. Set up sharing before the plan activates. Ultra and Unlimited plans are excluded.
Japan example for two adults: one eligible 20GB shared plan costs US$24.99 for 30 days. Two separate 10GB plans cost US$35.98. The shared purchase saves US$10.99 and lets either adult use more of the common balance; it still provides 20GB in total.
Saily’s consumer terms require users to be 18 or older, and the shared-plan instructions do not describe a child-account exception. Our family eSIM guide explains setups using adult connections and hotspot for nearby children.
Security Features: Useful Controls with Clear Limits
Saily includes three security tools with its data plans:
- Ad blocker: uses DNS filtering to block ads from separate advertising domains. Ads served from the same domain as the content can still appear.
- Web protection: filters known malicious domains and trackers. It does not inspect every possible threat hidden in a trusted website or email attachment.
- Virtual location: routes traffic through a remote server to change the location websites see.
You can enable these controls in the app. Saily’s security documentation also states that the service does not provide the full privacy guarantees of a dedicated VPN. Treat the features as an included convenience when assessing the plan.
If protection across your wider travel setup is a priority, our travel VPN guide covers that separate choice. Avoid paying more for overlapping security subscriptions unless you need the additional features.
Can Saily Make Calls and Send SMS?
Ordinary data plans can be used without a phone number; Saily also sells an optional US +1 number. The listed number subscription is US$1.99 per month. Calls and texts require a separate allowance, so US$1.99 is not the full cost of a calling bundle.
There are several practical limits in the phone-number documentation:
- Calling is local to supported destinations. The service does not support international calls. The Global calling option covers local calling in its supported travel countries.
- Incoming calls use your minutes too. Both directions draw from the same allowance. Someone calling your +1 number may also pay their carrier’s rate for a call to the US.
- Identity verification is mandatory. The number feature requires approved KYC before two-way communication. Accepted documents depend on their issuing country; some issuing countries are unsupported.
- Keep SMS simple. MMS, premium short numbers and call forwarding are unsupported. Long or non-Latin texts can consume multiple SMS units.
Read the accepted-ID requirements before buying the number. This verification requirement belongs to phone-number functionality; standard data-only plans do not typically require it.
Do not rely on the number as a guaranteed bank-verification solution. Saily explains that some services classify its carrier as VoIP and may reject it for OTP or two-factor authentication. For an ordinary data trip, messaging apps over mobile data may be all you need.
Saily Ultra: Three Tiers for Frequent Travelers
Ultra combines data in 121 destinations with travel and security benefits. Its current monthly options differ:
Ultra with monthly billing
| Tier | Monthly price (USD) | Data and phone-number allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | US$39.99 | 10GB high-speed data; reduced-speed unlimited continuation and a phone number are not included. |
| Plus | US$59.99 | 30GB high-speed data, then up to 1Mbps; phone number not included. |
| Premium | US$69.99 | 30GB high-speed data, then up to 1Mbps; phone number with 50 minutes and 50 SMS. KYC required. |
The tier-specific plan details are important: the general Ultra help page still describes a single 30GB product. Use the selected tier’s allowance when deciding what to buy.
Travel perks can add value if your airports and schedule qualify. Saily’s Ultra benefit guide describes selected-airport lounge and fast-track access, with fast-track requests made at least 24 hours before arrival. These benefits need planning; they should not be counted as automatic cash savings.
Budget for the full billing period. Ultra starts immediately and renews automatically. Cancel renewal in the app before the next charge if you only need one period. The monthly high-speed allowance is different from the daily allowance on a regular Unlimited plan.
For one holiday, compare the ordinary destination package first. Ultra makes more sense when you will use both its multi-country data and its additional benefits across repeated travel.
Customer Support and Refunds
Saily provides 24/7 support by chat and email. Its contact instructions specify that live chat runs through the mobile app. Keep the app installed and have another way to get online if the data connection fails.
For ordinary non-subscription plans, the refund help page allows a request within 30 days of purchase when the eSIM has not been installed or the data plan remains inactive. The consumer terms also require included extras to remain unused, unreserved and unshared for that unused-plan refund.
After activation, a refund is not guaranteed. Saily may consider a full or partial refund for service-quality problems or a plan with more than 99% of its data remaining. Contact support promptly and keep screenshots of the error and your plan status.
Subscriptions have separate conditions. Saily’s refund terms set a 14-day request window for subscription services, with usage and benefit conditions. Neither this nor the ordinary 30-day window is an unconditional free trial.
The 180-day activation window and the refund deadline are separate clocks. Buying well ahead of departure can leave a plan unused after its ordinary refund-request window has ended.
Which Alternatives Should You Compare?
Choose the comparison around the decision you still need to make:
- Saily vs Nomad eSIM — compare the actual destination package, allowance and top-up rules for your trip.
- Saily vs Airalo — examine plan coverage, setup and whether you need a calling option.
- Saily vs Holafly — look closely at Unlimited allowances, fair use and tethering.
For other providers, browse our eSIM review hub. Match the destination, trip length and data requirement before deciding that one provider offers better value.
Final Verdict: Is Saily Worth It?
Saily is a sensible shortlist option for travelers who value a reusable eSIM, app-based plan management and eligible shared-data access. The strongest starting point is a fixed-data package sized for the trip. Its price and expiry are easy to compare with your actual needs.
Choose regular Unlimited when its daily high-speed allowance suits your usage. Consider Ultra when recurring travel and usable benefits justify the full subscription charge. Add a phone number only if its local-calling rules, verification requirements and extra cost solve a real need.
For the Japan example, 10GB at US$17.99 is a practical solo comparison point, while 20GB at US$24.99 can support an eligible shared plan for two adults. Those are specific reasons to consider Saily; the right choice elsewhere depends on the destination offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Saily a legitimate eSIM provider?
Saily is a travel eSIM service from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. Its published plans, consumer terms and support resources can be checked directly. That establishes the provider’s identity; coverage and value still depend on the particular plan and trip.
Can I reinstall Saily after deleting the eSIM?
Yes. Saily documents reinstalling an eSIM or moving it to another device while signed into the app with the same email address. Follow its instructions with an internet connection. This is a transfer or reinstall, not simultaneous use of one profile on two phones.
Can I keep my normal SIM active?
On a compatible dual-SIM phone, you can keep the home line active while selecting Saily for data. Turn off data roaming on the home line and automatic data switching. Calls and messages on the home line remain subject to its carrier’s rules. See our dual-SIM guide.
Will my plan start when I install the eSIM?
Ordinary prepaid plans normally start when the eSIM connects in a covered destination, with automatic activation after 180 days if unused. Installation alone and activation are different steps. Ultra subscriptions activate on purchase; Turkey also needs advance preparation because of local restrictions.
Does Saily automatically buy more data?
Only if you enable the optional automatic top-up feature for that plan. You can disable it in the app. Ultra has separate subscription renewal, so turning off a regular plan’s top-up is not the same as canceling Ultra.
What should I do if Saily has no connection?
Check that the eSIM line is enabled, Saily is selected for data, roaming is on for that line, and the plan covers your location and has not expired. Reconnect to Wi-Fi for app support if needed. Our eSIM troubleshooting guide covers the next checks.
