Choose aloSIM if 5–10GB will cover your trip; consider Holafly if you want unlimited phone data for the exact number of days you are away. In our USA, Japan and Europe price comparisons, aloSIM’s fixed-data packages cost less. The two providers’ unlimited prices are much closer, so hotspot restrictions and the fine print matter more than the small price difference.
Holafly vs aloSIM is not simply an unlimited-versus-fixed-data decision: aloSIM sells both. Its Hushed phone-number offer is useful too, but it works through a separate internet calling app. It does not turn a data eSIM into a local mobile line for your destination.

Quick Verdict
- For a predictable data budget: aloSIM fixed-data plans are our starting choice, particularly if you want to use part of your allowance on a laptop.
- For unlimited use mainly on your phone: compare both. Holafly’s exact 14-day purchase is slightly cheaper than aloSIM’s 15-day package in the destinations below, before discounts and buyer-specific taxes.
- For calls to ordinary phone numbers: an eligible aloSIM purchase adds Hushed calling credit. Keep your established number for important verification messages.
- For demanding laptop work: neither unlimited label is enough. Holafly limits hotspot sharing, while aloSIM’s published speed limits conflict.

How we compared the plans
We checked official listings and support documents on October 8, 2026. The scenarios are for one traveler and one eSIM: 5GB over seven days, 10GB over 14 days, and an unlimited alternative for each trip length. The destinations are separate trips to the USA, Japan, or a European route through France, Switzerland and Italy.
Prices are the listed USD cost of whole packages, before our reader code and any tax tied to the buyer’s billing location. aloSIM’s terms allow applicable taxes to be added, so small price gaps should not be treated as a guaranteed checkout saving. We do not prorate a 15- or 30-day package to make it look cheaper.
This is a comparison of published products and terms, not a network-speed test. For a wider shortlist, see our best eSIMs for travel.
What 5–10GB Actually Costs
If maps, messaging and occasional browsing are your main mobile uses, start with a fixed allowance. The important number is the cost of a package that covers all your days, not its advertised starting price.
Holafly does not offer a matching fixed-GB purchase in these selected destination products. Its unlimited alternatives are included in the next table, alongside aloSIM’s unlimited plans.
aloSIM fixed-data purchases for the trip scenarios
| Destination and trip | Package you buy | Listed price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| USA · 7-day trip | 5GB · 7 days | US$12.50 |
| USA · 14-day trip | 10GB · 15 days | US$22.50 |
| Japan · 7-day trip | 5GB · 7 days | US$9.50 |
| Japan · 14-day trip | 10GB · 30 days | US$18.00 |
| Europe · 7-day trip | 5GB · 30 days | US$19.50 |
| Europe · 14-day trip | 10GB · 30 days | US$36.00 |
For a seven-day Japan trip, aloSIM’s 5GB package costs US$9.50, compared with US$27.50 for seven days of Holafly unlimited. That is a US$18.00 difference in listed package prices. You only benefit from paying the extra if the smaller allowance would be a real constraint.
For two weeks in the USA, the difference between aloSIM’s selected 10GB package and Holafly’s unlimited purchase is US$25.00. In Europe it narrows to US$12.90. A regional fixed-data plan is therefore not automatically the strongest bargain.
A 30-day validity does not require a 30-day holiday: Japan’s selected 10GB package is the same price as its 15-day version and gives more time to use the allowance. If you are unsure whether 5–10GB is realistic, use our travel data planning guide.
Unlimited Prices for 7 and 14 Days
Both providers sell unlimited plans for all three destinations. These make more sense when you expect substantial daily phone use or would rather pay extra than manage a small total allowance.
Whole unlimited packages for seven- and fourteen-day trips
| Destination and provider | 7-day trip (USD) | 14-day trip (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| USA · Holafly | US$27.50 7-day package | US$47.50 14-day package |
| USA · aloSIM | US$27.00 7-day package | US$49.00 15-day package |
| Japan · Holafly | US$27.50 7-day package | US$47.50 14-day package |
| Japan · aloSIM | US$27.00 7-day package | US$49.00 15-day package |
| Europe · Holafly | US$27.50 7-day package | US$48.90 14-day package |
| Europe · aloSIM | US$27.00 7-day package | US$49.00 15-day package |
The price gap is too small to decide this comparison on its own. aloSIM is US$0.50 cheaper for seven days. Holafly’s exact 14-day option is US$1.50 cheaper in the USA and Japan, and US$0.10 cheaper in Europe, while aloSIM includes an extra day.
For a trip that crosses into a fifteenth day of use, redo the duration comparison. Likewise, someone planning several gigabytes every day needs to look beyond the word “unlimited”: the next section explains why a cheaper package is not necessarily a dependable high-speed work connection.
Unlimited Data and Hotspot: The Limits That Matter
Holafly: phone data and hotspot are different allowances
The USA, Japan and Europe travel listings each allow 1GB of hotspot sharing per day. That is a daily sharing limit, not a pool you can freely move between days. A seven-day plan’s advertised 7GB of shareable data does not mean a 7GB laptop session is allowed on day one.
Phone data is also subject to local-network fair use. Holafly’s unlimited-data guidance describes temporary slowdowns, but does not give a comparable numerical high-speed threshold or reduced-speed promise for these three plans. Unlimited should therefore not be read as guaranteed full speed all day.
aloSIM: hotspot is supported, but the unlimited speed figures conflict
aloSIM supports sharing data through a hotspot. On a fixed-data package, phone and connected devices draw from the same allowance. A 3GB laptop upload, for example, would use 30% of a 10GB pool before you count the phone’s own activity.
There is a specific issue with aloSIM’s unlimited documentation. The current product-page fair-use popups advertise 3GB of high-speed data per day followed by 1 Mbps. Its general terms still specify 512 kbps after the daily allowance, and the USA page also retains a 2GB-per-day description. Those figures do not establish one consistent promise.
We would not buy aloSIM unlimited on the assumption that 3GB/day or a particular slowdown speed is guaranteed. Its terms also restrict continuous heavy tethering and use as a fixed-internet replacement. Ordinary travel sharing and an always-on laptop connection are different use cases.
Our choice for occasional laptop use is a suitably sized fixed-data package. For long video meetings or large uploads every day, use a connection with clearly documented limits and keep a second connection available. Our travel eSIM hotspot guide explains the practical checks.
Networks and Multi-Country Coverage
Published networks for the local country products
| Destination | Holafly | aloSIM |
|---|---|---|
| USA | AT&T / T-Mobile | T-Mobile / Verizon |
| Japan | KDDI / SoftBank | KDDI |
Shared carrier names do not establish identical service. Your location, device, congestion and the way traffic is routed can all affect the experience. We have not assigned either provider a speed win from a list of network partners.
For our European example, France, Switzerland and Italy appear in both providers’ Europe coverage lists. Switzerland is worth checking explicitly because a plan labeled “Europe” does not necessarily follow EU borders. Match every stop to the exact regional package; a Japan or USA country plan is not a substitute for a multi-country plan.
Check residency eligibility as well as the destination. Holafly’s current product FAQs exclude domestic use and state that this includes the EU region for EU-based residents. Our Europe comparison assumes an eligible visitor from outside that region; an EU resident should not assume the same product is suitable.
If your itinerary is still changing, our Europe eSIM guide compares a broader selection of regional options.
What aloSIM’s Hushed Phone Number Actually Includes
An eligible aloSIM package includes an offer for a US or Canadian Hushed number with US$3 of calling and texting credit. You redeem it after purchase and use the separate Hushed app over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Calls can reach ordinary phone numbers; the other person does not need Hushed.
According to the official promotion instructions, the free number’s plan follows the data package’s duration, capped at 30 days. The offer applies to qualifying packages rather than every purchase without exception. Further calling credit and continued number service can cost extra.
- It is not a local Japanese or European mobile number. A US or Canadian number keeps its country code when you travel.
- Verification is not guaranteed. Hushed says some banks, apps and other services reject VoIP numbers for verification.
- It cannot make emergency-service calls. Hushed explicitly excludes emergency calling.
For a few hotel or restaurant calls, that can be a useful extra. For bank messages already sent to your usual number, keep that existing line available under appropriate roaming settings. Holafly’s selected travel plans supply data, so ordinary calls require a separate calling service or your home line. Our guide to travel eSIMs with a phone number compares the different kinds of calling products.
Setup, Top-Ups and Refunds
Both providers offer app or QR-code installation. Use a compatible, carrier-unlocked device and install over a reliable connection before departure. Then follow the package’s activation instructions at your destination; installing a profile and starting its paid validity are separate steps.
aloSIM’s current guidance describes connection on arrival and allows data top-ups. For Holafly, buy enough days for the actual period you need: a full 24-hour day of use can run past midnight. Keep the installed eSIM unless the provider specifically instructs otherwise.
Route mobile data through the travel eSIM, disable data roaming on your home line, and review automatic data switching. Keeping your regular SIM active may still incur charges for calls or other services. See our dual-SIM setup guide for that distinction.
Both advertise 24/7 support; we have not measured response times. Holafly’s refund policy provides a request window of up to six months, with conditions depending on activation and the reason for the claim. aloSIM advertises a 30-day refund guarantee for problems such as incompatibility or connection failure. Neither should be treated as an unconditional free trial after extensive use.
Which One Fits Your Trip?
Choose aloSIM for a planned allowance and occasional tethering
aloSIM’s strongest case here is its fixed-data pricing. You can buy a defined allowance, share some with another device, and avoid paying for a larger unlimited product when hotel Wi-Fi will handle your heavy use. The Hushed offer adds value if you actually need a few ordinary calls.
The compromise is managing a finite balance. Before choosing 5GB, decide whether photo backups, video and laptop use will run over Wi-Fi. If you expect to buy repeated top-ups, price the larger package from the start.
Choose Holafly for a flexible duration and data use mainly on your phone
Holafly makes more sense when a small total allowance would be inconvenient and your hotspot needs fit its daily cap. The exact 14-day purchase is also useful when you do not need a 15-day bundle. Its price advantage over aloSIM unlimited is small, so treat duration and sharing limits as the deciding factors.

Final Verdict
aloSIM fixed-data plans are our better-value starting point for the 5GB and 10GB trips compared here. Holafly is the stronger candidate when you want a flexible number of unlimited phone-data days and only light hotspot sharing.
For unlimited versus unlimited, the listed prices are close. Choose around the actual restrictions, and do not mistake Hushed credit for a local mobile line or either provider’s unlimited label for a guaranteed work connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does aloSIM offer unlimited data?
Yes, including for the USA, Japan and Europe. Its unlimited products have daily high-speed limits. The conflicting figures in its current product pages and general terms are explained above; we would not promise one exact slowdown speed.
Can I share one eSIM with my travel companion?
You can share a supported plan’s connection through your phone’s hotspot, subject to its limits. Your companion depends on your phone staying nearby, powered and connected. This does not create a separate eSIM profile or an independent data balance for them.
Can I keep WhatsApp on my usual number?
Using a different SIM for mobile data does not by itself require you to change your WhatsApp account number. Keep access to the registered number if the app later asks you to verify the account; the Hushed offer is a separate service.
Will Hushed replace my home SIM for banking codes?
No. Codes go to the number registered with your bank, and Hushed does not guarantee acceptance by third-party verification services. Do not switch a banking account to a temporary travel number merely because it can receive ordinary texts.
Are Holafly Plans and Holafly travel eSIMs the same product?
No. This article compares prepaid destination travel eSIMs. Monthly Holafly Plans subscriptions have their own billing, coverage and features; their price and reader discount should not be applied to the travel packages in these tables.
Does a longer package validity give me more data each day?
Not on a fixed-data package. A 10GB allowance remains 10GB in total whether its validity is 15 or 30 days. A daily allowance on an unlimited product is a different arrangement.
